Pet portraiture – Equestrian, Dogs, Cats, Birds (and I also do humans)

Growing up, I always enjoyed painting and drawing. Having a superbly artistic and talented mum helped to encourage my skills and passion for the arts. In Secondary school, I was blessed to have two art teachers that nurtured and pushed my art skills to the point where i knew i wanted to pursue my love of art and continue my artistic journey at university. Majoring in painting, I thoroughly loved my 3 year art journey at LaTrobe Bendigo. I then completed a Grad Dip in Education and have been teaching Art, Visual Communication and Ceramics at a local Secondary college.

I have been blessed with two beautiful sons who keep me very busy and since returning back to teaching in 2015, I have turned to drawing as a medium as it is a lot easier for me to use with the boys around (oil paint and toddlers don’t mix too well).

My beloved 17 year old cat ‘Albert’ passed in 2014 and I felt such a deep loss and heartache, realising that our pets are far more than just pets. They are parts of our families and we form such a special bond with them.

I began drawing pet portraits as a way to celebrate this bond with our furry friends and it also became very therapeutic for me. I thoroughly love hearing stories about my clients beloved animals and enjoy helping them celebrate their pets, or helping to provide comfort and connection with pets that have passed.

I have also started drawing humans and am loving this aspect of my work.

In the future I am hoping to introduce a range of prints, and paintings, so keep your eye out.
